Math Olympiad Course by AEC
Ardent Educational Consultants will offer a Mathematics Olympiad Prep Course soon. The course will be taught by Mr. Suhaimi Ramly, the head trainer of the Malaysia team to the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
The modules used in the camp are developed exclusively for students who excel in classroom mathematics and seek to challenge themselves further. Students will learn precisely those topics needed to excel in national and international olympiad competitions. This course is specially tailored to prepare and challenge even the very best students in Malaysia.
The course follows the international convention for math olympiad, which covers four major topics: Algebra, Combinatorics, Number Theory and Geometry.
- Algebra covers algebraic identities, solutions of equations, inequalities, functions, sequences, and polynomials.
- Combinatorics covers bijective proof, counting principle, pigeonhole principle, binomial coefficients, and recurrence relation. Number Theory covers divisibility, principles of induction, modulo arithmetic, numerical functions, and Diophantine equations.
- Geometry covers topics on plane geometry, including collinearity and concurrence, circles, triangles, quadrilaterals and polygons.
The text that will be used throughout the course is Mathematical Circles: Russian Experience by Dmitri Fomin, Sergey Genkin, and Ilia V. Itenberg (ISBN: 0821804308). Every student will be provided with a copy of the text. In addition, students will receive daily handouts and problem sets.
All classes will be lectured by Mr. Suhaimi Ramly. Selected former and current team members of the Malaysia IMO national team will facilitate the classes. For more info, please go to http://ardentedu.com/v3/wp-content/uploads/Info_Sheet_for_Math_Olympiad_Prep_Course_Final.pdf
